Sean Kingston Gets Back to His Jamaican Roots

Sean Kingston’s 10 Favorite Reggae Songs—PLUS  His New Tune w Busta Rhymes

Ever since Sean Kingston first burst on the music scene as a teenage pop sensation with a runaway debut hit “Beautiful Girls,” we’ve been hearing how he grew up in Jamaica and his music was influenced by reggae. As hard as we listened we never really heard much evidence of that influence beyond song titles like “Fire Burning.” But that seems to be changing with his new album, Back 2 Life, SK’s first full-length project since he sustained serious insuries in a jet-ski accident. The first indication was the lead-off single “Shotta Luv” feautring 2 Chainz. And then we stopped by his record-listening in NYC and heard a straight-up dancehall track featuring Busta Rhymes. Sean seemed to like it so much he played it like three times in a row. The next day we asked him to run down his ten favorite reggae and dancehall tracks—and we are not mad at the selections. He even says he wants to work with Shabba Ranks! So hit the jump to learn the half that’s never been told about Mr. Kingston. Videos After The Jump… (more…)

Busta And Kartel Link On Another Big One With The Help Of T-Painbustakartel

Flipmode general Busta Rhymes links with the Gaza boss Vybz Kartel again on a blazing new track. Having already destroyed the “Twerk It Remix,” Busta calls upon the lyrical talents of Kartel once again, and in true Kartel style puts the reworked “Touch It” instrumental into a headlock followed by T-Pain bringing up the rear. Busta Rhymes has always repped for his Caribbean culture but with his new “Twerk It” Remix he’s taken things to a whole next level. Getting Vybz Kartel’s voice on the Pharrell-produced track was a nifty trick, and the Werlboss kills it. T.I. and French Montana spit dutty bars and even R&B thugs Ne-Yo and Jeremih sound right at home with the bashment vibes. Expect more yard flavor on Busta’s forthcoming album E.L.E.2. Busta Rhymes and Nicki Minaj are two hip-hop stars who have consistently shown their love for dancehall culture. It comes out in little ways sometimes, a touch of slang here, a collabo there. So when the two of them linked up to make a straight-up dancehall record the results were explosive. And now here’s the video that tuns the whole thing up till it buck. Video After The Jump… (more…)

  • HEAR THIS: Snoop Lion “Reincarnated” Full Album Preview

The Lion’s Coming With That Heat
    snoop
We’ve been hearing about this album that Snoop Lion has been working on with Major Lazer for months now, and today Reincarnated is finally here. Was it worth the hype? After hearing the full thing, we have to say yes. There are definitely some bangers on this album that real reggae fans need in their life. Standout tracks include “Fruit Juice” featuring Mr. Vegas, “Smoke The Weed” featuring Collie Buddz, and “Remedy” featuring Chris Brown and Busta Rhymes. Oh, and how could I forget “Boulevard” featuring Jahdan Blakkamore? But don’t take my word for it, check the full album preview and then go to iTunes, buy Reincarnated, and support reggae music. • HEAR THIS: Popcaan ft. Busta Rhymes “Only Man She Want Remix”

Gaza + Flipmode = Mad Ting

The Flipmode general Busta Rhymes lends his vocals on a remix to Poppy’s smash hit “Only Man She Want.” Bussa Bus flaunts his trademark wittiness and signature wordplay over the Sonique Records produced “Lost Angel Riddim,” we enjoyed it so much that we wished they gave him a second verse.

  • REMIX: Mavado & Busta Rhymes “So Blessed”

Busta Rhymes just linked up with Mavado for the remix to “I’m So Special.” Like Jay-Z, G-Unit, Wyclef, Uncle Murda, Lil Kim AND Foxy Brown, Busta’s feeling the Gully God. But don’t call Busta a waggonist. He may have trimed his locks, but he’s always kept in touch with his Caribbean roots by showing love to the reggae massive—from “Wicked Act” on Buju’s Voice of Jamaica album to “Change Like The Weather” on Bounty Killer’s My Xperience album (remember the video with Spencer Christian? maaad) all the way up to Sean Paul’s “Gimme The Light” remix and how could we forget “Make It Clap”? But out of all the jewels the God MC has dropped over his long career, this is the first time we’ve heard Bussa Buss singing. Maybe he should change his new album title to Back On My BoomShots?

    Run the track…
