Kashie Hits The Mark With The Second Single Off Her Debut EP
A lot has changed since we last spoke to the artist, Kashie, in her first official interview in February 2017. At the time she released her first single, “Royal Romance” which mirrored her real life relationship with the love of her life and now husband, musician and producer, Jallanzo. Since then the couple welcomed their first child and have worked collaboratively on her debut EP. The latter was entitled “Seeds and Sacrifice’ but Kashie later decided that she wanted her first EP to be self-titled, as Kashie. We interviewed Kashie and Jallanzo regarding the recently released single, “Twin Flames,” on the independent label, Jallanzo Records. More After The Jump…
Angel: Blessings, loving this new song and its upbeat tempo. Tell us about this riddim, Jallanzo
Jallanzo: Greetings Empress, this is the “Twin Flames” riddim- which has like a mix of dancehall, hip hop, and rhythm and blues to it and is faster paced. I added live guitar to it, which gives it a refreshing overall sound. Kashie listened to this beat and then we came up with the melody and verses for the song.
Angel: Kashie, your poetic background definitely shines through the lyrics of this song, how did you come up with the lyrics?
Kashie: I wanted to put before the world, this partnership and growth. Like a lot of relationships don’t have a real perspective, or has too many outside influences which just causes confusion. In the song, “Twin Flames,” I am basically wanting to inform and reform the way we think about intimate relationships.

Angel: Couples have to work things through to be strong
Kashie: Exactly, fight the urge to tell everybody and vent on social media, because then too many people become involved in the relationship…that’s why I sing “I can’t lose you to no other baby, there is no substitute to your loving baby.”

Angel: I’m sure a lot of people will relate to this song, especially with the issue of privacy versus transparency on social media. The lyrics are really meaningful. Why do you think you have hit the mark with your first two singles?
Kashie: This is my purpose on this earth. I was created to make music and it’s bigger than me. I think a lot of people love and relate to my music and for me, I am just stepping into my destiny. This is why I changed the EP title to Kashie, because I am introducing myself as a new artist and as I was making this new music, I felt like I was coming into myself and putting my soul into this catalog of songs. A light bulb went off in my head and I had the epiphany that this is just representative of myself, signature, Kashie.
Angel: A lot of women in the music business have made the decision to go Independent like Etana, Mya, Ashanti, why do you think people are choosing to do music, independently?
Kashie: I need to have creative freedom for all the juices to flow and to be fluid in my thinking and not confined by deadlines or pressure.
Jallanzo: I think with Independent you also know exactly where the money from your music is going.
Angel: How has working together as a couple influenced your music?
Kashie: Having a loving relationship behind the creativity is magical. There is more passion and emotion, when you have a creative target, a real life example to relate to. Everything in the creativity just becomes so much more real and it all manifests in the music.
