Turn Your Lights Down Low, K’La The Lyricist Wants To Let It All Go

K’la The Lyricist is the hottest thing to come out of Gary Indiana, since Michael, Janet, and Tito headed for Hollywood. Moving to Atlanta to pursue her music dreams two years ago, she spent her waitressing money to pay for studio time. Then she met Music Line CEO Anthony “T.A.” Tate, who was impressed with her sweet but salty around the way vocals and easy-flowing rhyme skills. This reggaematical track comes from her mixtape Coldest Winter Ever. If the song sounds familar, it should. Stephen Marley produced it, adapting a sample of his father’s classic “Turn Your Lights Down Low,” which he last revisited on the Chant Down Babylon album, featuring none other than Lauryn Hill. Now signed to the mega-major label Island Def Jam, K’La says she’s striving to keep her debut album as “honest and relatable as possible.” We say just keep it hot like that and you’ll be good. Run that…

In case you’re still fienin’ for @klathelyricist—as we suspect you are—here’s some behind-the-scenes footage from K’La video shoot (she walks like a boss):
