To get the inside scoop we reached out to the big man himself, Mr. Johnny Gourzong, executive Director of Summerfest Productions, who shared his personal thoughts on which acts he’s most looking forward to—and let us in on a few possible surprises. The Battle of the Sexes Rages On With A Music Video And All-New Lyrics

Vegas and Latty’s creative chemistry nah stop bubble. Ever since Vegas linked up with the feisty young singer and DJ from August Town Lane (formerly known as Digicel Rising Stars contestant Latoya Jackson, who was bigged up by Tessanne Chin for her performance) the veteran artist and his protege have been on a roll. Their first duet, “Who Rule,” has taken #TeamHustle to another level. MV Music’s hilarious battle of the sexes, voiced over a riddim reminiscent of Shabba’s vintage dancehall track “Twice my Age,” now has a music video, directed by DeeGo and Colin Young. The lyrics for the music video version are brand new—and while no less humorous they are somewhat less scandalous than the original raw version first heard on Boomshots. Moving from bedroom capers to kitchen and laundry (with a light touch of sexual innuendo) this second installment of the oldest argument in the world promises to become a modern classic. Gaza Slim’s Redemption Song

April 3, 2014 was a melancholy day for dancehall fans, when Justice Lenoxx Campbell made his ruling in the murder case of Clive “Lizard” Williams. Adidja Palmer aka Vybz Kartel was sentenced to life, with the possibility of parole after 35 years. In this case, no body was ever found and the case was decided mostly on text message evidence from telephones seized from the accused. Attorneys Christian Tavares-Finson and his father Tom Tavares-Finson, both lawyers who defended the dancehall artist, are already working on an appeal. Vybz Kartel associates Shawn Campbell aka Shawn Storm and Kahira Jones also received life sentences with the possibility of parole after 25 years. Shane Williams, another associate was acquitted on all charges in this murder case but charged for another murder case. Vanessa Saddler aka Gaza Slim, Vybz Kartel’s protégé was charged with a lesser charge, obstruction of justice, for filing a false incident report about being robbed at knife-point by Clive “Lizard” Williams, just five days after Kartel was charged with murder, in an effort to pervert justice. As Kartel fans gathered outside of the Jamaican Supreme Court for the 58-day trial, Gaza Slim showed her presence and undying love for the World Boss.  More After The Jump…

Dancehall Star Invites 20 Girls from Around the World to Compete for a Spot on His World Tour

Welcome to the Bruk It Down Reality TV Series, a showcase of 20 international dancers, hosted by Mr. Vegas. The dancehall hitmaker, known for songs like “Bruk It Down,” “Tek Weh Yourself,” and a crossover collab with Beyoncé, “Standing In The Sun,”  has invited female dancers to show off their skills in dancing and overall fitness to see who will be ready to join him on a global tour to promote Dancehall culture.  The ladies will be tested on their abilities to choreograph, perform, cook, and build character during the time spent on the sunshine island of Jamaica. Each dancer must demonstrate their passion for Caribbean culture as well as the advancement of Dancehall worldwide.
Throughout his career, Vegas has traveled the world and seen the excitement of audiences performing Jamaican dance moves to high-energy rhythms. Many YouTube users outside Jamaica upload their own rendition of the latest Dancehall dances. For example, since posting a choreographed video to Major Lazor’s “Watch Out For This (Bumaye)”  last December, DHQ Fraules from Russia has over 13 Million views on her video alone! Websites like DanceJA in Jamaica are also providing opportunities for celebrity choreographers to teach in the United Kingdom, Europe, and Japan. Seeing  the demand for Jamaican dancers, Mr. Vegas provided a platform for young ladies to live out their dreams as Dancehall Queens. The top prizes for winner include US $10,000.00 / being an official member of Mr. Vegas touring party / 6 months supply of MV (Mr. Vegas) Clothing and much more.
