HEAR THIS: Serani & Tony Matterhorn “Again & Again”

Daseca’s New Riddim Takes It Back To The “Dancehall Again”

Let me let you in on a little secret: I’m still not sure what the proper term would be for all that other stuff folks have been rocking to in 2010. But Daseca’s new riddim is called “Dancehall Again”—thank goodness—and this time they kept it simple. No Auto-Tune. No pop pretensions. Just some rugged keyboard sounds, reminiscent of Wild Apache’s “Mud Up” or King Jammy’s “Punany” riddim. And a bassline that’s fat and round. Now here comes Tony Matterhorn talking some reckless slackness while Serani sweetens up the hook. Hey… that’s not bad! Why aren’t more reggae producers making music like this? You figure it out. In the meantime, run that back again…

If you like this sort of thing, maybe you should—I don’t know—actually pay for it? Daseca’s “Dancehall Again” riddim (also featuring Assassin, Aidonia, Beenie, Bugle, Elephant, Vegas, Fire Links, Galaxy P, and Twin of Twins—not to mention Dexter Daps, Kibaki, Future Fambo, and Versatile) hits iTunes November 16th.
