Gaza Fans Rejoice But There’s Still A Long Road Ahead

Gaza fans are celebrating at today’s news that Vybz Kartel and his co-defendants have been granted “leave” to pursue his appeal. His Lawyer Tom Tavares-Finson told the Jamaica Observer that this was an important step in the case. “It’s the first but critical step in the appeal process,” the prominent attorney explained. “A single judge, Justice Frank Williams, has read all the papers from the trial and determined that there are grounds on which an appeal could be allowed, so he has given the green light to proceed. We will move on to a full appeal in September. It is a limited victory, but an important moral victory for my client, as it reinforces the notion in his mind that justice will be srved and he will be acquitted.” Full Story & Video After The Jump…

Kartel was given a life sentence for murder along with three others including Gaza deejay Sawn Storm, was to be eligible for parole in 35 years. In this new update the World boss is looking to have his new trial by the end of this year and if all was to fall in his favour then he could be a free man. Kartel collaborator Spice says that while she understands that the process will be a long and winding road, she remains optimistic and is encouraging Vybz Kartel fans to think positive: “It is no secret seh a Gaza mi seh straight, so mi excited bout this, and I know all Gaza fans are excited as well. Not because it [the appeal] don’t necessarily mean freedom, it is good news, and mi embrace it nonetheless.” Foota Hype wants people to have a more realistic approach and be midful that the Justice system is goind to do what it will have to. “A lot of people don’t understand what an appeal is. It doesn’t mean you are free. It just means you are eligible for a retrial. Court talk and street talk a two different thing.” Based on the latter, the selector refused to state whether he believes the appeal would work in Kartel’s favor. “It’s not for me to think, enuh, because how the justice system works is they are going to base their arguments off evidence and what is in front of them,” the selector told THE STAR.
