Remix adds R&B Flavor to Dancehall Smash Hit
The ladies received a special treat on March 21, 2017. Two heartthrobs in the genres of R&B and Dancehall, respectively, collaborated on a remix for a song released in 2016. Konshen’s incendiary hit “Bruk Off Yuh Back” on the Moskato riddim produced by Christopher Birch, begins: “Wah dis make you feel like do? / Wah dis make you feel like do? / Wah dis make you? For most dancehall lovers, this song makes you want to break into dance moves. The song merged into mainstream music culture and remains an international hit. More After The Jump…
The video directed by Dameon Gayle, starts off like a movie and ends up bringing dancehall vibes to the wilderness and uncharted territory.
In an interview with Seani B, Konshens had a premonition that a hit was on his hands:
“I know when something has the right sound. The producer sent me the track and it seemed to click together very easily. We shot the video and the rest is history.” –Konshens
His vision manifested and earned him a contract with Empire, a U.S. label. Under new management with Sharon Burke, Konshens states:
“Sharon is opening doors and making things happen for us. She is introducing us to new people and that is helping move the music forward.”-Konshens
Konshens music is being well received across the United States and globally. In fact, the song “Bruk Off Yuh Back” continues to be a party favorite in Spring 2017.
Now with this remix , two major artists collaborate for a fusion of R&B and dancehall. Chris Brown gives his best effort with Jamaican patois, but in the reviews most people preferred just hearing him sing with his signature vocals, in the remix.
The remix is receiving mixed reviews, in terms of comparison to the original. However, there is no doubt that both the original and remix, will keep the dance floor hot and steamy. The original wins in terms of overall sound matching the song’s theme. The original, in unison with the title of the song, sounds a little more hardcore and authentic than the remix. However, we can safely predict that the ladies will be looking forward to the remix visual and the live performance of the remix.
