Rihanna Putting In “Work” As Her Dancehall Single Tops Billboard Chart For 8th Consecutive Week

Bajan BadGyal Ties The Beatles With 57 Career Weeks At #1

As the dancehall World Boss put it in his 2015 anthem, “Dancehall cyaa stall forever and ever.” Rihanna has once again proved Kartel’s maxim as her single “Work,” featuring Drake posts its eigth consecutive week at the top of the pop charts. The music industry bible Billboard reported today that the Bajan pop star has reached a new career milestone, tying The Beatles with her 57th career week at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100,  which measures the most popular singles in the U.S.A.  Full Story After The Jump…

RiRi accomplishes this feat on the strength of the most unadulterated dancehall release of he career. If “Work” continues its domination of the pop charts for another week, Rihanna will move into the #2 position on the list of all-time hitmakers, trailing only Mariah Carey, whose has racked up 79 weeks at the top of the charts. A ninth week seems a good bet as America’s low-key dancehall obsession continues—what with Justin “Natty Dread” Bieber’s Skrillex-produced “Sorry” continuing to dominate airplay. Drake, meanwhile, shows all signs of riding said dancehall wave. Although it’s not clear whether “Controlla,” his duet with Popcorn, will make the cut for his forthcoming album Views From the 6, two of the official singles, “One Dance” featuring Afrobeat star Wizkid & UK singer Kyla and “Pop Style” featuring The Throne (Jay-Z & Kanye), sport titles of classic dancehall tracks. When announcing the album’s April 29th release date on Beats Radio, Drake slipped into T.Dot patois, saying this about the process of recording his album: “it’s not a short ting.”

Big Request to RiRi: No. 1 Pon The Billboard Chart
