Kartel Busts The Billboard Charts

The Unstoppable WorldBoss Just Keeps On Winning

Controversial Deejay Vybz Kartel‘s latest album Viking (Vybz Is King) made a grand debut at #3 on the Billboard‘s Reggae Album Chart and currently sits comfortably at #6. At the moment, he is the only dancehall artist to have an album in this chart’s Top Ten. This milestone marks the highest debut of his career, adding to Kartel’s string of successful musical feats since he has been incarcerated for the murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams. Against all odds, he has remained at the forefront of the dancehall music scene—regularly releasing new songs, dominating radio airwaves and winning awards even as detractors denounce him. Released early last month, ‘Viking’ is collectively brought to us by renowned production house TJ Records, Addi’s own Adidjaheim Records and his common-law wife Shorty’s imprint label Short Boss Muzik (which also represents PG-13, a dancehall duo comprised of Kartel’s young sons Lil’ Adi and Lil’ Vybz). Kartel’s longtime collaborator Linton ‘TJ’ White produced the EP, which contains 11 brand new songs and it is being distributed by 21st Hapilos. Check out one of the singles, the aptly titled “Unstoppable,” an uplifting anthem for all ghetto youths striving for betterment.

Whilst this is the self-proclaimed Dancehall Hero’s best Billboard showing yet, he has had previous top ranking entries on this chart such as ‘Kingston Story’ (2011); ‘Vybz Kartel Roots & Culture: The Voice of the Jamaican Ghetto’ (2013); ‘Kartel Forever: Trilogy’ and last year’s ‘Reggae Love Songs & Other Things’.
