WATCH THIS: Busy Signal “What If?” Official Music Video

The Turf Prez Stirs The Pot With Some Pointed Questions

In Busy Signal’s latest song,  “What If?” the Turf President puts on his philosophical hat and generates thought-provoking lyrics about the unpredictability of life. His lyrics emphasize that good and bad things happen to everyone, and we never know when adversity will swing our way, in the pendulum of life.  More After The Jump…

People go to psychic readers to find out what’s coming next, but humans have no power over the future. Besides if we knew exactly, at what point, the difficult times were going to occur, we would live our lives in constant preparation for the worse.

“To be, or not to be, that is the question-

Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer

the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,

or to take arms against a sea of troubles

and by opposing, end them? —Hamlet, William Shakespeare

The lines above from Hamlet, written by the great William Shakespeare, are extracted from a scene, where the distraught Prince of Denmark contemplates his shortcomings in life. Hamlet realizes that the alternative to these troubles may have a worse outcome.  Similarly, Busy Signal’s conditional lyrics underline the power of the thought process in ruling  behavior and affecting outcomes.

In “What If ?” he questions hard drugs, crime, bleaching, taxes, religious views and even the hardships arising from relationships: “What if your best friend becomes your foe?” He implies not burning bridges behind you as you move forward in life, because: “You never know. ” He briefly mentions  the Foota Hype-Ishawna saga, and proposes a table turning scenario.

In the video, directed by Dameon Gayle and Benjamin Lidsky, we see footage of  Busy’s tour through India and on his home turf in Jamaica. There is a cameo from another artists with conscious lyrics, Konshens, who gives us a “Wha?” to one of Busy Signal’s valiant questions. Busy Signal stretches our minds like a rubberband with this one.
