Vybz Kartel’s Trial Postponed Again

The wait is still not over. After being ordered to wait until the new year to commence his trial, The Werlboss now faces another setback. We’re starting to get the feeling that the court is not in any hurry to see this trial go forward. On Monday, officials at Kingston’s Home Circuit Court placed another postponement on Vybz Kartel’s trial date—the second one put into effect since last November. According to published reports, Kartel told a close associate that he’s determined to stand firm. “‘The system a try break me but mi stand firm in the belief of the almighty’ Teacha said to me,” the source said. “They keep putting off the case because they know Addi innocent and they probably want find more things to charge him with.”
The artist, born Adidja Palmer, is being tried in two separate murder cases. He and Gaza artist Shawn “Storm” Campbell and stylist Calvin “Moonie” Haye have all been charged in the murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams. Palmer is also charged with the killing of Barrington Burton. Progress on these cases has been maddeningly slow. In late November a glimmer of hope came through when a judge working on the Burton case granted Kartel a J$500,00 (USD$5,400) bail, one that he was not able to take advantage of due to proceedings of the Williams case. The trial on the Williams case has been rescheduled for May 27.
