Drizzy Drake To Feature Mavado In His Next Video, “Find My Love”

VIBE.com reported today that Drake will feature Mavado in his next video, entitled “Find My Love.” The Canadian-born rapper and his crew jetted home yesterday via G4 private jet after an epic three-day shoot all around Kingston, Jamaica. Directed by Anthony Mandler, the visionary responsible for Rihanna’s “Russian Roulette” and Jay-Z’s “Run This Town” as well as Drake’s latest video “Over,” “Find My Love” is rumored to be more like a mini-movie than a normal music video.

Along with beach scenes at Port Royal and club action at New Kingston hotspot Asylum (now known as The Building), much of the video was shot in Mavado’s birthplace, Cassava Piece, aka Di Gully Side.

“Drake loved the vibe, mi nah lie,” Mavado told VIBE. “We did our best to make sure everything was as comfortable and smooth as possible. Even after mi lef Cassava Piece Drake was still there! It coming like a dessoh him born and grow!” Although Mavado’s vocals are not heard on this single from Drake’s new album Thank Me Later (due to drop June 15th), Mavado plays a major role in the video, portraying a top shotta who suspects Drake may be messing with his lady. Mavado and Drake have spent time in the recording studio as well, so a future collaboration between the artists remains a possibility—especially with Drake sending tweets like: “Alliance!! Jamaica to di world. Gal ova gun!”

The “gal” in the video was played by Maliah Machel, known in Jamaica as the official spokesmodel for Mandingo Roots Tonic. Machel praised Drake’s professionalism and called him a “super sweetheart.” She also tweeted that her favorite experience was shooting the bedroom scene.

The Young Money delegation couldn’t have arrived at a better time, as the dancehall industry has been caught up in all sorts of legal entanglements of late. Not only are Buju Banton and Bounty Killer behind bars as of this writing (Buju faching drug charges in Florida, Bounty facing assault charges in Jamaica) but Mavado, Bounty, and Beenie Man are among a handful of Jamaican artists who recently had their U.S. visas suspended without explanation, severely limiting their income from touring. Still Mavado is counting his blessings, having recently survived a serious motorcycle crash, which he commemorates in his latest tune “9 Lives.” (Check out the song’s debut on Hot 97.) Mavado’s cuts and scrapes will surely be visible in Drake’s new video. But that realness that Mavado brings will certainly make the clip “so special”…
